Fees and charges

I love my work, I love a challenge, and I try to be as reasonable in my expectations as I can be while still making some kind of living, and honouring my experience in the areas I’ve now worked in professionally for upwards of 2 decades.

Here are some guidelines as to what I consider reasonable payment for certain types of work.  If you can’t pay the amounts I’ve mentioned, it’s not necessarily a deal-breaker – have a look at the flowchart at the bottom of this page to see if I might still be open to negotiating with you.

Performing: base rate begins at $500 (for a single piece of music, 10 minutes or less in length) plus travel reimbursement, and rises from there according to how much repertoire there is, how complex the repertoire is, and how many rehearsals you would like me to attend.

Conducting: base rate for rehearsal $150; base rate for performing $225, plus travel reimbursement.  These amounts are negotiable if we have a regular working relationship.

Composition: negotiable, but should at least come within cooee of the 2012 Australia Council guidelines, which you can see here.

Arranging: $60 per hour.

Vocal coaching: see this page

Workshop facilitation: $250 for a half-day, $400 for a full day, plus travel reimbursement.

Reimbursement of travel: $0.65 per km for road travel.  For interstate travel, reimbursement of airfares, accommodation (see below), airport transfer costs and travel to and from rehearsals and performances (receipts will be provided).

Accommodation: if you are more than 3 hours’ travel from me by road, or if you are outside Tasmania, I may request accommodation.  I am happy to be put up in a motel, a hotel, an Air BnB, a cabin or caravan, or even billeted. My needs aren’t complex: a clean, private room with an actual bed (unless your sofa bed is insanely comfortable – please, no mattresses on the floor), access to power and a shower, and some measure of “alone time” in order to prepare for whatever it is you’ve hired me to do.
